Futuron (space)

Released in 1987, this sub-theme ties for second in the space category. LEGO Futuron and LEGO Blacktron came out at the same time. Being one of the larger space sub-themes, it had 17 sets in all. The theme was based upon peaceful space explorers. There torsos were all almost the same, a zipper going across it with the classic space classic space logo in the corner. However, the torsos background color varied from lots of different colors (blue, red, black, and yellow). They used mostly space ships and rovers for transportation, but this theme introduced something new into the space theme, space trains! Known as monorails in the LEGO world, these vehicles were powered by 9 volt battery's. Sets that came with monorails were usually some of the larger sets in the theme. The best selling set in the Futuron theme was the 6990 monorail transport system. Another well known set was the Star defender 200, set 6932, and the Interplanetary Rover, set 6925 . The theme (like most) came to an end in 1990, however this wasn't the end of LEGO space. Space police, another space sub-theme had started being produced during the time in which Futuron sets were sold. The space police protected the Futuron explorers from the Blacktron space men.

The monorail was very popular.

This set ( if I'm not mistaken) was the largest land rover.
