Classic Space

My first three posts will be about the first three LEGO play themes. These three were castle, city, and space. This one is about the classic LEGO space theme which was launched  in 1978. It featured a large variety of space vehicles which were based off of science fiction spaceships from the 1970s and 1980s. The models were mostly built with blue and grey bricks and transparent yellow window bricks that are no longer produced. The main reason for making the classic space theme is because nine years before, rockets landed on the moon. Since then many people, who included children, became interested in space travel. Many toy brands (including LEGO) then made space toys that many children were interested in. The series was a big success and lasted till 1987, even though it had some slight differences, including visors, which were not in the original products. This space theme was the first of many and lasted the longest. It (and the original LEGO city and castle) introduced themes and minifigures into the LEGO world. It inspired the making of many other LEGO space themes including Futuron, Blacktron, space police and many others.

The logo on the torso is the classic space logo.
